BIG CLYDE - Biographie

Gegründet wurde die Band im Sommer 2016, als Kevin Volken mit einigen bereits komplett fertigen Demosongs auf der Suche nach Musikern für eine neue HardRock Truppe war. Bald wurde mit Sandro Vanetti der erste von zwei Gitarristen und sogleich auch Songwritingpartner von Kevin gefunden. In unglaublich konstruktiven Sessions entstanden so in den 10 folgenden Monaten 19 komplette Songs, vom Schlagzeug, über Bass bis hin zu Gitarren und Vocals mit Backings.

Während dieser Zeit stiessen Gitarrist Marco Hegner und Drummer Remo Löffel dazu, denen die Demos von Kevin und Sandro zu gefallen schienen. Kevin’s Vorschlag, die Band BigClyde zu nennen und das Symbol der Band nach den riesigen Stahlgiganten auf Schienen, welche in den späten 1800-er Jahren in Australien gefertigt wurden, zu gestalten, war kurz darauf beschlossene Sache.

Das Logo mit der Lokomotive und der damit verbundene Name, symbolisiert eine Formation, welche einmal ins rollen gebracht, nur schwer zu stoppen ist. Um keine Zeit zu verlieren, gingen die 4 Musiker ohne komplett zu sein (der Bassist fehlte noch!), bereits Ende 2017 ins Studio um ihre erste EP „One“ (3 Songs) aufzunehmen. Darauf ist als Bassist Reto Burrell zu hören, der sich Big Clyde für die Aufnahmen zur Verfügung stellte.

Noch während den Aufnahmen im November 2017, wurde mit Sid Robben am Bass das fünfte und letzte Bandmitglied gefunden.

Keine 4 Monate später, im März 2018, feierten BIG CLYDE in Arosa (CH) ihre live- Premiere. 2 Monate später, im Mai 2018 erschien bereits die EP „One“.

Im August 2018 erschien als single release der exklusiv für den Event „Tell Ride“, geschriebene Song „Fuel“.

Nach 10 Monaten live auf der Bühne, wurde das Jahr 2018 mit 8 Konzerten in 5 verschiedenen Kantonen zusammen mit 6 anderen teils auch internationalen Bands, beendet.

Das Konzertjahr 2019 begann fulminant. Nämlich mit der Rückkehr von Big Clyde an den Ort wo alles anfing: nach Arosa. Gefolgt von mehrfachen bookings für grosse Motorradhersteller, kam auch bald ihr erstes Radiointerview inkl Live-Studio-Session, die an mehr als 200'000 Hörer live über den Äther und übers Internet übertragen wurde. Nach weiteren Club- und Open-Air-Gigs im Frühsommer 2019 gingen BigClyde im Herbst `19 als Support der US-Band SOTO auf ihre Debut-Europa-Tour durch diverse Länder und Städte wie Milan, Marseilles, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia u.a. . Zeitgleich waren sie an der Vorbereitung für die Produktion für ihre zweite EP, welche die Band mit dem Produzenten Michael Voss in Angriff nahmen. Nach der äusserst erfolgreichen Tour und zahlreichen positiven Pressefeedbacks in allen bespielten Ländern, machte sich die Band Ende 2019 an die Aufnahmen zur neuen Scheibe. Die Veröffentlichung waren noch für das Frühjahr 2020 geplant.

 

Nachdem die Band die Aufnahmen mit Michael Voss im Kidroom- und Kidwood Studio beendet hatten, gingen die Vorbereitungen für die kommende Konzertsaison los. Dabei wurden neue Lichtelemente in ihre Show eingebunden, neue Songs geprobt und sogar erste Pläne für ein Musikvideo geschmiedet. Doch dann änderte sich einiges. Wegen der Corona-Pandemie wurden viele Konzerte verschoben oder gar abgesagt. Doch die Band liess sich nicht davon beirren. Sie veröffentlichte in dieser Zeit ihre erste Ballade „When the storm is over“. Und als Zeichen der Solidarität mit Menschen die wegen des Virus in Not gerieten, spendete die Band die gesamten Einnahmen des Songs, während den ersten zwei Monaten, an eine Wohltätigkeitseinrichtung. Gleichzeitig waren sie mit einem Label aus Deutschland in Verhandlung, welches Interesse zeigte, die neue Big Clyde Scheibe unter deren Namen zu veröffentlichen. Der Release wurde nun neu auf den Sommer 2020 gelegt.

 

„Never a dead end“ wurde mit einem Durchschnitt von 7/10, von vielen Musikmagazinen gut bewerted. Von dieser EP wurden drei Singles und ein Musikvideo zu „Walk the dog“ veröffentlicht.

 

2021 war ruhig und viele Konzerte wurden wegen der Coronapandemie abgesagt oder verschoben.

Erwähnenswert: Big Clyde eröffnete für Thundermother an den Biker’sDays Basel. Und um nicht Rost anzusetzen, schrieb die Band an neuen Songs, welche auf ihrem nächsten Album zu hören sein werden.

Gegen Ende 2021 entschied die Band abzuschliessen, was Kev in 2019 nach der Tour angefangen hatte: die Aufnahmen von „Freakin out“ featuring Jeff Scott Soto als zweiter Leadsänger und mit Shanky Wyser an der Hammond. Nachdem der Song in 2019 komponiert und der Text dazu geschrieben wurde, veränderte sich die Welt leider negativ. Traurigerweise passte der Song nun umso besser zur Realität, da die Coronapandemie und die Invasion Russlands in der Ukraine Tatsache waren. Die Aufnahmen, das Mischen und die Produktion eines Lyricvideos nahmen einige Zeit in Anspruch und so wurde die Veröffentlichung von „Freakin out“ auf den Mai 2022 angesetzt. Big Clyde waren somit umso mehr bereit, die beginnende, warme Konzertsaison (Start war ein OpenAir im Juni mit Shakra) zu rocken.

Charakterbeschreibung:

BIG CLYDE schreiben nicht nur ihren Sound selbst, sie leben Rock’n’Roll mit jeder Faser live aus. Ein Energielevel wie eine donnernde Dampflokomotive. Ihre Version des Hard Rock ist nicht nur hard sondern auch eingängig und manchmal sexy und smooth. Ununterbrochen arbeiten die Jungs daran, ihren ganz eigenen Sound zu verfeinern. Die Zeit beim Schreiben von Liedern und im Studio ist die Aufwärmphase für etwas Grosses. Jedes fertige Lied ist der Auftakt für etwas Einzigartiges. Etwas, das man spürt, wenn man selbst Teil der Energie wird, in dem Moment, in dem BIG CLYDE auf die Bühne treten. Das ist der Moment, in dem alles zu explodieren scheint. Dann entlädt sich die ganze Energie der Vorbereitung – dann wenn die Jungs Gas geben und ihrem Rock’n’Roll freien Lauf lassen. Die Wucht von BIG CLYDE und ihre live performance reisst einen ungebremst mit, und das Einzige was für die Jungs in diesem Moment zählt, ist das Publikum, welches weggeblasen werden soll.

Jeff Scott Soto sagte über die fünf Jungs: „Big Clyde ist eine Kombination aus Hard Rock, Spass und frenetischer Energie. Sie saugen dich ein in ihre Show und lassen dich nicht los bis sie wieder von der Bühne gehen. Das ist Heute sehr selten. Ich würde Big Clyde jederzeit und überall schauen gehen!“

BIG CLYDE – Biography

​

Formed in the summer of 2016, when Kevin Volken was looking for musicians for a new rockcombo, with a pocket full of complete demosongs. Soon he would not only find Sandro Vanetti as a guitarrist, but also as a fellow songwriter. After many increadibly constructive sessions, they wrote 19 complete songs, including drum-, bass-, guitar- and vocaltracks in the next 10 months. During this time they found further band members, namely Marco Hegner on guitar and Remo Löffel on drums, who seemingly liked the demo recordings they’ve made. Kevin’s suggestion to name the band BigClyde and to design the bandlogo based on huge steel giants on tracks, made in Australia in the late 1800’s, was soon agreed upon. The logo containing a locomotive and the connection to the name of it, is meant to symbolize a formation, that once set in motion is hard to be stopped. To not lose any time, the 4 musicians headed to the studio already in November 2017, without even being a complete band (the bassist was still missing) and recorded their 3-song-EP “One”. Playing the bass on it is Reto Burrell, who offered his help to the band for the recordings of the EP. During the sessions, in November 2017, the band found bassist Sid Robben, who became the fifth and last member to form the band.

 

Not even 4 months later, in March 2018, BIG CLYDE had their live-premiere in Arosa (CH). 2 months later already, in May 2018, the band released their EP “One”. In August 2018, the exclusive “Tell Ride”-song “Fuel” was released as a single. After 10 months of being live, the year 2018 ended with 8 concerts in 5 different cantons together with 6 partially international bands.

 

2019 started great, as Big Clyde returned to the spot where it all started: Arosa. Followed by multiple bookings for big motorbike manufacturer, they also gave their first radio interview including a live-studio-session, during which they played 5 songs to an fm- and streaming audience of more than 200`000 listeners. After playing more club and open air gigs in early summer 2019, they headed out on their debut European-Tour as a support of the US-group SOTO, through multiple countries and cities like Milan, Marseilles, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and others. At the same time the band was in preparation of their second EP, together with mastermind producer Michael Voss. After the very successful tour and many very positive feedbacks from the international press, the band started recording at the end of 2019. Planned release was early 2020.

 

After finishing the sessions with Michael Voss at Kidroom and Kidwood Studios, the band started to prepare for next gigs, including their own light show, new songs and even a musicvideo. But then lot of things changed. Because of the Corona pandemic many gigs were postponed or even cancelled. But the band didn’t let themselves get stopped by this fact. They released their first ballad „When the storm is over“. And as a sign of solidarity with people who struggled because of the virus, the band donated all proceeds this new release made within the first two months, to a helping cause. At the same time they were negotiating a deal with a german label, who were interested in releasing the new Big Clyde record under their name. The release date was now set for summer 2020. „Never a dead end“ was received well by many music magazines and had an average rating of 7/10. The band released three singles off that EP and a music video to „Walk the dog“.

 

2021 was quiet and many gigs were cancelled due to the pandemic. To mention: Big Clyde supported Thundermother at the Biker’sDays Basel. And not to get rusty, the band kept on going with songwriting for a new album, still to be determined when to be recorded. In late 2021 Big Clyde decided to finish what Kev had started in 2019 after the tour: the recording of „Freakin out“, featuring Jeff Scott Soto on second lead vocals and Shanky Wyser on the Hammond. After composing the song and writing the lyrics in 2019, unfortuantely the world turned quite sour. Sadly, the song fitted the episode of the pandemic and the invasion of Russia against Ukraine well. Mixing and the production of a lyric video took a while. Finally the relase was set for May 2022, ready to kick off the warm concert season (starting in June with Shakra) with a new song in their bag.

Describing the character:

BIG CLYDE not only write their own sound, they live it. An energy level like a thunderous steam locomotive. Their version of Hard Rock is not only hard, but also hooky and sometimes even smooth and sexy. On stage they breath rock'n'roll with every fiber. Continuously the boys are working on refining their very own sound. The process of writing songs and the time in the studio is the warm-up phase for something bigger. Each finished song is the prelude to something unique. Something that you feel when you become part of the energy, in the very moment BIG CLYDE step on stage. That’s when everything seems to explode - when the guys let go, to let their rock'n'roll run wild. And as the force of the sound carries on, the only thing that matters to the band in that moment, is the audience, which is meant to be blown away.

Jeff Scott Soto said about the five guys: „Big Clyde is a combination of hard rock, fun and frenetic energy. They pull you in and won’t let you go until they leave the stage. And that’s something very rare. I would go see Big Clyde anywhere, anytime!“
